I accidentally started the Silent Playlist method over a decade ago.
Back then, I was falling in love with strength training. I saw my trainer once a week, showed up consistently, and even entered a local Life Time Fitness competition (like CrossFit, but less, um, hardcore).
One day during training for the competition, I needed something.
I needed to dig deep. I needed a pulse.
Everyone else was looking for the next hype song on their phone or trying to hear over instructors screaming into their headset mics in a booming class.
But I was looking for a beat on my own terms. Something Deaf-friendly. 😀
One day I started spelling…A-L-P-H-A.
And everything shifted.
Each rep became a letter.
Each rep brought me back into my body.
I visualized winning the comp. (I did. I even made it to Life Time nationals once!)
But that was just the beginning.
When I was studying for my personal training certification, I spelled W-I-N-N-E-R.
When I got the Marvel contract — nervous as hell but ready — I spelled M-A-R-V-E-L.
Now, sometimes I spell D-A-D when I miss him. Or S-T-A-R-S when I just need to trust the process.
But usually?
It’s a word that makes me feel like a fortress.
Since then, Silent Playlists have evolved, but spelling words will remain my first love. So I created a quiz to help you find your word. Because this isn’t just for me!
They’re not just for Deaf people (but it is an accessible solution). I use this with my clients.

You train to release emotion. You might let out a little growl with your reps. You don’t do life half hearted and your workouts get the same fire. You don’t need music to direct you because your words slap. You leave it all out on the floor and leave feeling charged. You walk away from your workout with a trail of “who-is-that?”
Training mood:
emotion-burning, energy-cleansing, and spicy

Mostly C’s – THE STILL FORCE 🪷 🎯
You smooth rockstar. You’re calm, but not casual. You move through space with a powerful presence you don’t need to shout. You’re drawn to beauty - in art, in nature, in people - but you know the raw beauty of effort too. Of showing up. Of staying centered, even with sweatyness and shakyness.
Training mood:
fluid transitions, breath-led movement, anchored

Mostly D’s – THE FORTRESS 💪 ⚡️
Resilience is your JAM. You don’t train for show, either (but it’s totally awesome if someone compliments your biceps). Your favorite reps are the gritty ones most people don’t see. The reps that show you’ve still got it - just like you keep grabbing life by the horns, the same way you grab that kettlebell. You’re solid. People want to workout next to you (without messing your focus)!
Training mood:
embraces effort, grit, take up space with chill confidence
Words to spell: S-T-R-O-N-G, U-N-B-R-O-K-E-N, T-O-U-G-H, B-U-I-L-D, R-A-W-R, H-E-L-L Y-E-S

FITNESS-y FEEL-y GOOD THINGS
DRINKING: I’m not easily fooled and I strongly dislike feeling altered (I love being sober that much!). But a De Soi or Recess Mood before bed? It’s a nice chill. Recess even gave me 15% to share with you!
